LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 130th Anniversary of Gouverneur
Health in Manhattan's Lower East Side

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those institutions that substantially contribute to the
vitality and well-being of their communities and the entire Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the
130th Anniversary of Gouverneur Health in Manhattan's Lower East Side;
and
WHEREAS, Since 1885, Gouverneur Health has served the Lower East Side
and Chinatown communities auspiciously and has provided comprehensive
healthcare services for the ever-changing influx of immigrants on the
Lower East Side; and
WHEREAS, In addition to its dedication to the community it serves,
Gouverneur Health also served our nation during both World Wars, as many
Gouverneur staff members enlisted in the war efforts; and
WHEREAS, Through the creation of its Community Health Centers and the
deployment of mobile medical and dental vans, Gouverneur Health has
striven to extend accessibility to healthcare throughout the Lower East
Side and Chinatown communities; and
WHEREAS, An extensive expansion and modernization project at Gouvern-
eur Health has made this HHC facility every bit as helpful and cutting
edge as many private facilities; and
WHEREAS, Gouverneur Health now provides over two hundred fifty thou-
sand outpatient visits each year; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Gouverneur Health; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges this exceptional institution and its contributions to the Lower
East Side and Chinatown communities, fully confident that it will
continue to serve as it has thus far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 130th Anniversary of Gouverneur Health in Manhattan's
Lower East Side; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gouverneur Health.
