LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Margaret Murnane upon the occasion of
winning the 2015 Congressional Art Competition for the 20th Congression-
al District of New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth of
today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Margaret Murnane upon the occasion of winning the 2015 Congressional Art
Competition for the 20th Congressional District of New York; her winning
picture was displayed at a reception at the Arts Center of the Capital
Region in Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, The annual Congressional Art Competition, which began in
1982, is sponsored by the members of the United States House of Repre-
sentatives, and seeks to encourage artistic talent among high school
students nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Margaret Murnane is a Junior at Shaker High School in Latham,
New York; her acrylic painting, entitled "Family Ties" was judged to be
the best out of 48 unique entries from 18 different schools throughout
the Capital Region; and
WHEREAS, Margaret Murnane's exceptional piece will be on display at
the United States Capitol for the duration of the year alongside the
winning entries from other Congressional districts nationwide; and
WHEREAS, Artistic competitions which serve to better prepare our
students for their future participation in the marketplace of ideas are
worthy of praise and support; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
artist now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers, mentors and
parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Margaret Murnane upon the occasion of winning the 2015 Congres-
sional Art Competition for the 20th Congressional District of New York;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Margaret Murnane.
