LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 125th Anniversary of the
National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution on October
11, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
outstanding organizations within our communities that, year after year,
diligently work to preserve the history of New York State and the United
States, encourage patriotism, and promote the advancement of education;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 125th Anniversary of the National Society of the Daughters of
the American Revolution to be celebrated on Sunday, October 11, 2015;
and
WHEREAS, Established in 1890, the National Society of Daughters of the
American Revolution (NSDAR) is a non-profit, non-political volunteer
women's service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserv-
ing American history, and securing America's future through the educa-
tion of all children; and
WHEREAS, One of the most inclusive genealogical societies in the coun-
try, NSDAR boasts 177,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United
States and internationally; any woman 18 years or older, regardless of
race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from
a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership; and
WHEREAS, The NSDAR National Headquarters, located in Washington D.C.,
houses one of the nation's premier genealogical libraries and
collections of pre-industrial American decorative arts, as well as an
extensive collection of early American manuscripts and imprints; it is
also home to Washington's largest concert hall; and
WHEREAS, With a sense of civic responsibility, NSDAR members volunteer
millions of service hours annually to such worthy causes as supporting
active duty military personnel, assisting veteran patients, awarding
scholarships and financial aid to students, and supporting schools for
underserved children; and
WHEREAS, The majority of NSDAR's volunteer work is accomplished
through the grassroots efforts of local chapters throughout the country;
these local chapters constantly strive to locate and restore Revolution-
ary War gravesites and headstones; place monuments around the world to
honor people and events in American history, and organize and contribute
to major repairs, commemorations and memorials; and
WHEREAS, Under the illustrious guidance of President General Lynn F.
Young, the NSDAR, remaining true to its mission, continues its vital
work of promoting patriotism, supporting veterans causes, preserving
history, and assisting those descendants of Revolutionary War soldiers
in becoming members of the organization; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the National Society of the Daugh-
ters of the American Revolution on October 11, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to President General Lynn F. Young, National Society of Daugh-
ters of the American Revolution, Washington D.C.
