LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating student-athlete McKyla Brooks upon
the occasion of being named the 2015 Prep Talk Player of the Year for
Girls Indoor Track and Field by THE BUFFALO NEWS
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize our
young individuals, who strive for athletic and academic excellence
through rigorous training and mental and physical discipline; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late student-athlete McKyla Brooks upon the occasion of being named the
2015 Prep Talk Player of the Year for Girls Indoor Track and Field by
THE BUFFALO NEWS celebrated on Monday, June 15 at the Hyatt Regency
Buffalo Hotel and Conference Center in Buffalo, New York; and
WHEREAS, An integral part of the Frontier High School Girls Indoor
Track and Field Team, senior McKyla Brooks displayed tremendous hard
work, outstanding athletic skill, and exemplary sportsmanship to receive
this prestigious honor; and
WHEREAS, McKyla Brooks was the runaway choice for Section VI indoor
track MVP after completing a season in which she won three sectional
titles and the New York State Championship in the long jump; and
WHEREAS, During the Section VI meet, this esteemed young woman won
first place in the 55 meters and long jump, and finished second in the
triple jump, an event in which she set the Section VI record last
season; and
WHEREAS, At the NYSPHSAA Championship, McKyla Brooks won the long jump
event with a winning mark of 19 feet, 1/2 inches; she was also just
1/2-inch behind the overall Federation champion; and
WHEREAS, In addition, McKyla Brooks finished seventh overall in the
triple jump, and was sixth among public-school athletes with a leap of
37-8 1/2; and
WHEREAS, McKyla Brooks will be attending Stony Brook University in the
Fall where she will continue to compete in track and field, as well as
in volleyball; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and McKyla Brooks has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of her school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate student-athlete McKyla Brooks upon the occasion of being
named the 2015 Prep Talk Player of the Year for Girls Indoor Track and
Field by THE BUFFALO NEWS, and to wish her all the best in her future
endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to McKyla Brooks.
