LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Hilda Schmidt upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition for her contributions to the local
German-American community by the Troy German Hall Association
WHEREAS, From time to time, this Legislative Body, takes note of certain
individuals that should be recognized for having given their time and
energies to serve the best interests of their communities, and to
publicly acknowledge their service; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to honor Hilda Schmidt upon
the occasion of her designation for special recognition for her contrib-
utions to the local German-American community by the Troy German Hall
Association, which was celebrated at German-American Day on Saturday,
October 4, 2014, at Germania Hall, Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, German-American Day is a time for celebrating and strengthen-
ing the sense of identity and pride in the contributions of German-
speaking immigrants and their descendants in building this great nation;
and
WHEREAS, In 1947, Hilda Schmidt was born in Ellenberg Depot, New York;
a few years later, she and her family moved to Albany, New York, where
she attended Holy Cross and Bishop Gibbons Schools; in 1966, she gradu-
ated from Colonie Central High School; and
WHEREAS, Beginning in 1973, Hilda Schmidt worked for Empire Blue
Cross/BlueShield of Northeastern New York; she retired after 30 years of
outstanding service; and
WHEREAS, For over three decades, Hilda Schmidt has been a dedicated
member of Germania Hall; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Hilda Schmidt upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition for her contributions to the local German-American community
by the Troy German Hall Association; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Hilda Schmidt.
