LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 40th Annual Mid-Hudson St.
Patrick's Day Parade on March 13, 2016, and honoring Sister Ann Daly
upon the occasion of her designation as Grand Marshal of the Parade

WHEREAS, St. Patrick's Day is a time to celebrate the rich heritage of
the Irish people, unlimited in their contribution to this State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, A St. Patrick's Day Parade reflects and records the ongoing
history of the United States and Ireland and provides an opportunity for
people of all generations to assemble in ethnic pride and pageantry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 40th
Annual Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Day Parade on Sunday, March 13, 2016,
and to honor Sister Ann Daly upon the occasion of her designation as
Grand Marshal of the Parade, to be held in Goshen, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Parade Committee, organizer of
this fine event, is comprised of representatives of several Orange Coun-
ty organizations; the parade is the largest cultural event in Orange
County, and is also the biggest single-day celebration in Goshen; and
WHEREAS, The Mass in honor of St. Patrick, as well as the Grand
Marshal's Breakfast on the morning of the parade, have also been planned
by the Parade Committee members, who work diligently all year to make
these events successful and memorable; and
WHEREAS, The Grand Marshal for the 2016 Parade from LAOH Division 5,
Sister Ann Daly has lived and worked in the Goshen, New York, area for
52 years; she was born in Astoria, Queens, and her mother was from
Carrickmacross, County Monaghan, and her father came from Iniskeen,
County Monaghan; and
WHEREAS, Sister Ann Daly attended St. Michael's Academy in New York
City, where she met the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed
Virgin Mary (PBVM); she entered the convent over five decades ago and
started teaching in 1961; and
WHEREAS, In 1963, Sister Ann Daly moved to Goshen, New York, and
taught third grade at St. John's School until 1971; at that point, she
became Director of Religious Education, a position she held through
1981; and
WHEREAS, In 1982, Sister Ann Daly became the Executive Director of the
Hospice Planning and Educational Foundation, Inc.; in 1988, the organ-
ization became incorporated under the New York State Health Department
and she held the title of Coordinator of Spiritual Care; and
WHEREAS, The mission of Hospice is to provide physical, emotional and
spiritual care to patients from life-limiting diseases, as well as
provide bereavement support programs to their families; this vital
program serves more than 1,000 patients throughout the entire region
each year; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Sister Ann Daly has ministered to many
patients and their families in their home, nursing home, hospital and
Kaplan Residence; twice a year in Orange and Sullivan Counties, memorial
services are held and sponsored by the Hospice Interfaith Advisory
Committee; and
WHEREAS, Sister Ann Daly has always tried to remind family members, as
well as staff and friends, that the greatest gift we can give to any
person is the gift of our presence; hospice staff and volunteers are
privileged to share in the final journey with patients and families they
care for and support at this most precious time in life; and
WHEREAS, Proud of her Irish descent, Sister Ann Daly has attended all
of the festivals throughout the years, and was voted the 1998 Irish

Woman of the Year by the Irish Heritage Festival Committee; since 2009,
she has been the Chaplain of LAOH Division 5; and
WHEREAS, The St. Patrick's Day Parade celebrates the spirit, purity
and strength of the Irish culture and its fine traditions; and
WHEREAS, Through this heartfelt and compassionate expression, as well
as through their sustained commitment to the cultural vitality of their
Irish heritage, the Irish-American people of Orange County, the Mid-Hud-
son area and the State of New York bear witness to the deep faith and
love of humanity which is their rich tradition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 40th Annual Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Day Parade, to be
held on March 13, 2016, and to honor Sister Ann Daly upon the occasion
of her designation as the 2016 Grand Marshal; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Mid-Hudson St. Patrick's Parade Committee, and Grand
Marshal Sister Ann Daly.
