LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Port Jefferson High School
Girls Varsity Soccer Team and Coach Allyson Wolff upon the occasion of
capturing the 2015 New York State Class C Championship
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice, team play and team spirit, nurtured by
dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, The Port Jefferson High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team
captured the 2015 New York State Class C Championship with an exciting
3-1 victory over Elmira Notre Dame on Sunday, November 15, 2015, at the
SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex in Cortland, New York; and
WHEREAS, Utilizing outstanding defense and a potent offense, the Port
Jefferson Lady Royals won their first New York State Class C title in
school history, after reaching the finals in the 2014 season; and
WHEREAS, Prior to winning the championship game, the Lady Royals faced
a long and challenging post-season schedule; after being crowned the
Suffolk County Class C Champions, they defeated Haldane High School by a
score of 3-0 to win the Long Island Class C Title at Diamond in the
Pines; the team was also victorious over Caldeonia-Mumford High School
in in the New York State semi-final game by a score of 4-1; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the efforts of Coach Allyson Wolff, a skilled and inspirational
tutor, respected for her ability to develop potential into excellence;
and
WHEREAS, The team's overall record of 15-2 is outstanding, and the
team members were loyally and enthusiastically supported by family,
fans, friends and the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of the Port Jefferson High School Girls Varsity
Soccer Team, from the opening game of the season to participation in the
championship, were a sisterhood of athletic ability, of good sportsman-
ship, of honor and of scholarship, demonstrating that these team players
are second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school; and
WHEREAS, Coach Allyson Wolff has done a superb job in guiding, molding
and inspiring the team members toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Coach Allyson Wolff and these outstanding athletes
have clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their school; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Port Jefferson High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team,
its members: Raquel Accardo, Jane Albinson, Amanda Brosnan, Jillian
Colucci, Kaitlin Connolly, Brittany Fazin, Sarah Hull, Isabelle Love,
Olivia Love, Gina Lucero, Clare O'Connor, Hailey Reale, Corinne Scan-
nell, Brianna Scarda, Ava Schully, Sabrina Schully, Grace Swords,
Alexandria VanOverberghe, Alexa Wakefield, Camryn Ward, Olivia Weldon,
Mikayla Yannucci, Amelia Zamek, Noelle Zimmermann; Coach Allyson Wolff;
Assistant Coach Michelle Aponte; Athletic Trainer Michele Mattera; and
Athletic Director Debra Ferry, Superintendent Kenneth Bossert, Principal
Christine Austen, and Assitant Principal Kevin Bernier, on their champi-
onship season and overall team record; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Port Jefferson High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team and
the aforementioned coaches and staff.
