LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Mayor Mary Ann Ashley upon the occa-
sion of her retirement after many years of distinguished service to the
Village of Canton, New York, and to St. Lawrence County

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Mayor Mary Ann Ashley upon the occasion of her retirement after many
years of distinguished service to the Village of Canton, New York, and
to St. Lawrence County; and
WHEREAS, Mary Ann Ashley was proudly elected to the esteemed position
of Mayor by the residents of her community; in this capacity, she has
ably served the residents of the Village of Canton, New York, as their
leader and representative; and
WHEREAS, Prior to being elected Mayor, Mary Ann Ashley served on the
Canton Village Board, and was a member of the Canton Joint Recreation
Commission; and
WHEREAS, During her career of public service, Mayor Mary Ann Ashley
was instrumental in expanding recreational activities for both village
and town residents, expanding tourism opportunities, cutting the costs
of government and holding the line on taxes, while improving services to
the residents of her community; and
WHEREAS, In her capacity as a public servant, Mayor Mary Ann Ashley
served with loyalty, honor and distinction, and was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems in her
official acts; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Mayor Mary Ann Ashley upon the occasion of her retirement after
many years of distinguished service to the Village of Canton, New York,
and to St. Lawrence County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mayor Mary Ann Ashley.
