LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Kristi Beth Kvalheim posthumously
upon the occasion of her induction into the 2016 Fort Hamilton High
School Alumni Association Hall of Fame on February 13, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor those indi-
viduals whose exceptional athletic prowess has left an enduring legacy
in their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Kristi
Beth Kvalheim posthumously upon the occasion of her induction into the
2016 Fort Hamilton High School Alumni Association Hall of Fame, to be
celebrated at its Dinner Dance on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at Rex
Manor, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, A 1995 graduate of Fort Hamilton High School in Brooklyn, New
York, Kristi Beth Kvalheim was known as a star athlete, and well-liked
and admired by her peers; she was elected to the position of Senior
Council Secretary; and
WHEREAS, A fierce competitor, Kristi Beth Kvalheim was an enthusiastic
member of several sports teams at Fort Hamilton High School including
Varsity Volleyball, Varsity Tennis and Junior Varsity Basketball; after
graduation, she planned on becoming a physical education teacher at her
alma mater; and
WHEREAS, Unfortunately her dreams fell short; shortly after gradu-
ation, this vital young woman was diagnosed with leukemia, and trag-
ically, on February 8, 1996, she succumbed to her illness; and
WHEREAS, Kristi will long be remembered not only for her stellar
athletic prowess, but also for her positive attitude, and sense of fair
play and competition; and
WHEREAS, Today, Kristi Beth Kvalheim's legacy lives on; the girls' gym
was named the Kristi Beth Memorial Gymnasium in her honor, a fitting
tribute to an exceptional young woman; and
WHEREAS, Athletes such as Kristi Beth Kvalheim have provided a tremen-
dous service to the future of our State and Nation, inspiring gener-
ations of student-athletes in their athletic journeys and ensuring their
success in their future years; and
WHEREAS, Kristi Beth Kvalheim has clearly been an inspiration to the
youth of Fort Hamilton High School, as well as to the community-at-
large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause for her impres-
sive dedication to others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Kristi Beth Kvalheim posthumously upon the occasion of her
induction into the 2016 Fort Hamilton High School Alumni Association
Hall of Fame on February 13, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Kristi Beth Kvalheim.
