LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Junior League of Orange County,
New York, Inc. upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the
2016 Corporate Bell Award by the Mental Health Association in Orange
County, Inc.

WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of organiza-
tions, businesses, and individuals who devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Junior League of Orange County, New York, Inc. upon the occasion of
its designation as recipient of the 2016 Corporate Bell Award by the
Mental Health Association in Orange County, Inc. (MHA), to be celebrated
at its Silver Ball on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Falkirk Estate
and Country Club in Central Valley, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each year the Mental Health Association in Orange County,
Inc. proudly honors outstanding organizations, businesses, and members
of the community who give unselfishly of themselves to help make the
lives of others fulfilling, recognizing them for their dedication to the
community and their commitment to MHA's mission; and
WHEREAS, The Mental Health Association in Orange County, Inc. seeks to
promote the positive mental health and emotional well-being of Orange
County residents, working toward reducing the stigma of mental illness
and developmental disabilities, and providing support to victims of
sexual assault and other crimes; and
WHEREAS, Working in partnership with service recipients, families,
volunteers and the community, MHA strives to fulfill its mission through
advocacy, direct service, education and information dissemination; and
WHEREAS, The Junior League of Orange County, New York, Inc. is part of
the international organization of women committed to promoting volun-
teerism, developing the potential of women, and to improving the commu-
nity through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers; and
WHEREAS, The Junior League was organized in 1901 in New York City; 15
years later, the Junior Welfare League of Newburgh was founded, and in
1922, was established as the Junior League of Newburgh (JLN), Inc.;
furthermore, a Middletown committee of the JLN was created in 1928, and
in 1973, the Newburgh and Middletown units merged forming the Junior
League of Orange County, New York, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, For over 87 years, the Junior League of Orange County, New
York, Inc. has had an accomplished history of providing the community
with valuable programs through a process of identifying gaps in
services, forming partnerships, and allocating resources; and
WHEREAS, A strong and viable force in the community, the Junior League
of Orange County, New York, Inc. has members placed in voluntary commu-
nity service, and many belong to other civic organizations as well as
serve in board positions in the community; in addition, within the
Junior League of Orange County, Inc. its active members serve on League
committees, which are instrumental in the operation of the organization;
and
WHEREAS, More than 75 women represent the Junior League of Orange
County, New York, Inc. and serve as consultants and catalysts to commu-
nity groups, providing training for both League and community members;
and
WHEREAS, The collaborative projects with community partners focus on
issues affecting children and families of Orange County; currently, the

Junior League of Orange County, New York, Inc. is concentrating on
women's social and economic empowerment by educating the public on the
importance of a healthy and nutritional diet plus exercise; and
WHEREAS, Over this past year, the Junior League of Orange County, New
York, Inc. has served the community by sponsoring nearly two dozen
recent or ongoing projects, some of which include the Annual Holiday
Family Sponsorship, the Clothesline Project, Habitat for Humanity Women
Build, the Holiday Hunger Appeal, as well as the Annual Scholarship
Fund; and
WHEREAS, The future long-term goals and short-term objectives of the
Junior League of Orange County, New York, Inc. are to continue to
promote volunteerism and to improve the community through the effective
action and leadership of trained volunteers; and
WHEREAS, Historically, the Junior League of Orange County, New York,
Inc.'s leadership and vision have been instrumental in helping the
Mental Health Association in Orange County, Inc. deliver a range of
services and programs needed by children and families; and
WHEREAS, The Junior League of Orange County, New York, Inc. has been a
supporter of the Mental Health Association in Orange County, Inc. for
many years; as a dedicated community partner, it has helped MHA and its
programs to flourish, greatly enriching the lives of countless others;
and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
recognize the Junior League of Orange County, New York, Inc. for its
unwavering commitment to the Mental Health Association in Orange County,
Inc. as it provides an uncompromising standard of excellence in the
delivery of superlative service to the communities and citizens it so
ably serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble accomplishments are brought to our attention, they
should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of the great
State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Junior League of Orange County, New York, Inc. upon the
occasion of its designation as recipient of the 2016 Corporate Bell
Award by the Mental Health Association in Orange County, Inc.; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Junior League of Orange County, New York, Inc.
