LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 125th Anniversary of the
Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA to be celebrated on January 12,
2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals and organizations who would faithfully
dedicate themselves to the care and protection of animals; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 125th Anniversary of the Chemung County Humane Society and
SPCA to be celebrated on January 12, 2016; and
WHEREAS, A non-profit animal shelter located in Big Flats, New York,
Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA provides housing for animals
which are offered to the public for adoption; the shelter also hosts
free rabies clinics, teaches dog training classes, and assists other
area shelters faced with overcrowding issues; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1891, the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA
is one of the oldest animal shelters of its kind not only in New York
State, but also in the entire Nation; and
WHEREAS, A critically important resource, this vital animal welfare
organization has influenced shelters across the country, and continuous-
ly shown the true character of the people who live in its community; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA is
in direct correlation to the efforts of its volunteers and staff, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of this institution and the
animals it serves; and
WHEREAS, Under the illustrious guidance of Executive Director Tom
Geroy, the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA will continue to
provide the best possible service to its community for many years to
come; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the Chemung County Humane Society
and SPCA; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tom Geroy, Executive Director, Chemung County Humane Society
and SPCA.
