LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Joseph Nosek upon the occasion of his
designation for special recognition after decades of dedicated service
to the Youngsville Fire Department

WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Joseph Nosek upon
the occasion of his designation for special recognition after decades of
dedicated service to the Youngsville Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, In 1938, Joseph Nosek was born in Hancock, New York; he and
his parents moved to Treadwell, New York, where they operated a dairy
farm; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Nosek attended A.L. Kellogg Central School; in 1957,
he graduated from Broom Tech in Binghamton, New York, certified as an
Electrical Technician; and
WHEREAS, He then began his career with NYSEG in Liberty, New York;
during this time, he proudly served his country as a member of the
United States Army; and
WHEREAS, In 1965, Joseph Nosek and the former Mary Banuat were
married; they relocated to Youngsville, New York, and happily raised
their two daughters, Susan and Tami; and
WHEREAS, After fulfilling his obligation with the United States Army
Reserves, Joseph Nosek joined the Youngsville Fire Department in 1966;
an enthusiastic member, he quickly rose through the ranks, holding the
leadership positions of Fire Chief and President; and
WHEREAS, Joseph Nosek has been active in the Sullivan County Fire-
fighters Association since 1972, holding the position of President in
1980; and
WHEREAS, To recognize Joseph Nosek for his dedicated service to the
community in which he both lives and works, the Youngsville Fire Depart-
ment dedicated their Annual Parade in his honor; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Joseph Nosek was a member of the Sullivan County
Fire Advisory Board from 1976-1990, holding the title of Vice Chairman
from 1981-1990; he also served on the committee to establish the Sulli-
van County Call Center at the airport; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Joseph
Nosek is such a firefighter; throughout decades of devoted service, this
volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call of duty, those
responsibilities which define the task of fire protection; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Joseph Nosek after decades of distinguished service;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joseph Nosek.
