LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Maurice Thorton upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Faith Based Service Lifetime Achievement
Award by the Capital District Senior Issues Forum

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Maurice Thor-
ton upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Faith Based
Service Lifetime Achievement Award by the Capital District Senior Issues
Forum; this momentous occasion was celebrated at its 17th Annual Awards
Ceremony on Wednesday, October 7, 2015; and
WHEREAS, The Capital District Senior Issues Forum is a voluntary
initiative among faith communities, organizations and individuals which
provides support for the seniors in the Capital District through educa-
tion and dialogue; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1988, the Capital District Senior
Issues Forum has grown tremendously from its small grass roots begin-
nings, to a truly vital organization which focuses on the care and
success of seniors; and
WHEREAS, Over its distinguished history, the Capital District Senior
Issues Forum has held 16 ceremonies and has recognized more than 676
senior citizens over the age of 85 for their lifetime achievements; and
WHEREAS, Maurice Thorton is one such senior, and was honored with this
esteemed award in recognition of his extraordinary contributions in the
lives of others, and for giving selflessly in a faith based service; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Maurice Thorton has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Maurice Thorton has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Maurice Thorton upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Faith Based Service Lifetime Achievement Award by the Capital
District Senior Issues Forum; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Maurice Thorton.
