LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Thelma Hicks upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great Nation
and Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Thelma Hicks, of Franklinville, New York, upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Thelma Hicks was born on January 26, 1916; the daughter of
William and Margaret Riggs, she attended Ten Broeck Academy and lived
nearly her entire life in Franklinville; and
WHEREAS, Thelma Hicks married the late Harold Hicks in February of
1934, after meeting while roller skating; the couple was blessed with
two sons, William and James; Thelma Hicks is also a loving grandmother,
having been blessed with six grandchildren: Pamela, Kenneth, Donald,
Richard, Michael and Kimberly; she has been further blessed with several
great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, For approximately three years, she worked as a school cook,
sharing her passion of cooking with young children; Thelma Hicks also
excelled at ceramics and enjoyed crocheting and knitting; she also loves
animals, having had many dogs over the years; and
WHEREAS, During her birthday celebration, Thelma Hicks recalled her
favorite decades as being the 1940s and 50s; she also shared memories of
dancing at Lime Lake and cited President Kennedy as her favorite presi-
dent to serve during her lifetime; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her smile and jubilance and through the charm and wisdom which
comes only from fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a remark-
able age and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural
developments, and awesome achievements of this country during the last
century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Thelma Hicks upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ms. Thelma Hicks.
