LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring William Scheuerman upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Kate Mullany Medal by the American
Labor Studies Center on December 8, 2015
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to publicly acknowl-
edge those individuals whose endeavors serve the best interests of the
workforce in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
William Scheuerman upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the Kate Mullany Medal by the American Labor Studies which was cele-
brated at its Annual Recognition Reception on Tuesday, December 8, 2015,
at NYSUT Headquarters, Latham, New York; and
WHEREAS, Owners of the Kate Mullany National Historic Site, the Ameri-
can Labor Studies is currently restoring this national landmark located
at 350 Eighth Street, Troy, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Kate Mullany Medal was established to honor the legacy of
Kate Mullany, a young Irish immigrant who formed and later led America's
first all-female union; and
WHEREAS, William Scheuerman was presented with this prestigious honor
for being an original member of the American Labor Studies Center's
Board of Directors and for being an exceptional advocate in promoting
the organization's studies; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man received his bachelor's degree in Public
Administration from City College of New York, his Master of Arts in
Political Science from Queens College, and his Ph.D. in Political
Science from the CUNY graduate school; and
WHEREAS, Currently, William Scheuerman is a professor of Political
Science at the State University of New York at Oswego where he has
taught since 1974; and
WHEREAS, William Scheuerman has served in many executive positions and
on the boards of multiple educational organizations, including the
National Labor College, United University Professions, American Feder-
ation of Teachers and the New York State United Teachers; and
WHEREAS, A noteworthy author, William Scheuerman has written the book
PUBLIC SPENDING, PRIVATE POWER; THE FISCAL CRISIS IN AN ERA OF BUDGET
CONSERVATISM, as well as numerous articles for scholarly journals; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor William Scheuerman upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the Kate Mullany Medal by the American Labor Studies Center on
December 8, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to William Scheuerman.
