LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Candace Vancko upon the occasion of
her retirement after over 15 years of distinguished service as President
of the State University of New York at Delhi

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those leaders in
education whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance
the stature of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Candace Vancko upon the occasion of her retirement after over 15 years
of distinguished service as President of the State University of New
York at Delhi to be celebrated on Thursday, April 7, 2016, in Delhi, New
York; she will officially step down in May of 2016; and
WHEREAS, For over 15 years, Dr. Candace Vancko has rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service as President of the State University
of New York (SUNY) at Delhi; she is regarded as having the single great-
est positive impact of any President in the modern history of the
school; and
WHEREAS, Candace Vancko received her Bachelor's degree and Master's
degree in Speech from the Pennsylvania State University, and completed
her Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Ohio University; and
WHEREAS, Prior to being named President of SUNY Delhi, Dr. Candace
Vancko worked in both the private and the public sector, and is
nationally recognized as a Higher Education Management Specialist; she
also served as Vice President of Enrollment Services at Hocking College,
and was an associate for Noel-Levitz, one of the nation's leading higher
education consulting firms; and
WHEREAS, In August of 1999, Dr. Candace Vancko was named the ninth
president of SUNY Delhi, a position in which she served with loyalty,
honor, and distinction, while making many great advancements for the
college; and
WHEREAS, Under Dr. Candace Vancko's illustrious tenure, SUNY Delhi has
achieved record enrollment and retention, and became ranked among both
the Top 50 Baccalaureate Colleges in the North and in the Top 10% Online
Bachelor's Degrees in the Nation by US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed woman has built partnerships with
business, industry, and government leaders, as well as other SUNY Commu-
nity Colleges to offer unique services and programs to students across
New York State; she has also helped her school earn Carnegie Foundation
Community Engagement Classification; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Dr. Candace Vancko has helped SUNY Delhi
complete numerous major capital projects including the renovation of the
Farrell Student and Community Center, the transformation of Sanford Hall
into a state-of-the-art-facility for the School of Nursing and Business
Department, and the construction of Clark Field House; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Candace Vancko has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; she has served on many important
committees including the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development
Council, and the search committee which selected the Chancellor of the
State University of New York; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Dr. Candace Vancko serves as Co-Chair of SUNY's
Vibrant Community initiative, and is a member of both the Provost's Open
SUNY Advisory Committee and the New York Campus Compact Executive
Committee; and

WHEREAS, In her official acts, Dr. Candace Vancko was governed by a
keen sense of duty, and always showed a unique grasp of human problems,
earning her the admiration, esteem and affection of her colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Candace Vancko upon the occasion of her retirement after over
15 years of distinguished service as President of the State University
of New York at Delhi, and to wish her all the best in her future endeav-
ors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Candace Vancko.
