LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the YMCA
of Kingston and Ulster County on March 5, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize those
illustrious organizations within this great State and Nation whose focus
and intent have made a substantial impact on the quality of life in
their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing tradition, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to commem-
orate the 150th Anniversary of the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County to
be celebrated with a Bowtie & Blue Jeans Dinner, Dance, and Live Auction
on Saturday, March 5, 2016, at the Best Western Plus, Kingston, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1866, the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County is a
private not-for-profit, community-based organization providing social,
health, physical education and recreation services to the residents of
Ulster County; and
WHEREAS, A vital part of its community, the YMCA of Kingston and
Ulster County is a diverse organization whose members join together by a
shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, promoting healthy
living, and fostering a sense of social responsibility; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County believes that everyone
has the desire to be well and that well-being is best cultivated by
providing supportive relationships and environments; this vital organ-
ization also believes that all people should have the opportunity to be
well in spirit, mind, and body; and
WHEREAS, The YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County offers its members
numerous beneficial programs including school-age child care, health
enhancement/fitness classes, summer camps, swim lessons for all ages,
special scholarship programs for low-income youth and families and phys-
ical rehabilitation programs; and
WHEREAS, For 150 years, the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County has
strived to try to help where help is needed by providing support,
resources and guidance so people can improve their own lives and the
lives of others; and
WHEREAS, Today, the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County remains stead-
fast in its commitment to serving people of all ages, races, faiths,
backgrounds, incomes and abilities as they strive to fulfill the chang-
ing needs of the community for many years to come; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of President/CEO Heidi
Kirschner, the success of the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County is in
direct correlation to the efforts of its volunteers and staff, whose
involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an impressive
commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm and an uncompromising standard of
excellence in all endeavors on behalf of this institution and the commu-
nity it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster
County on March 5, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the YMCA of Kingston and Ulster County.
