LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Sergeant Nicole Dean upon the occasion
of her retirement after 28 years of distinguished service to the New
York City Police Department on May 13, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote them-
selves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in
providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities
and this great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Sergeant
Nicole Dean upon the occasion of her retirement after 28 years of
distinguished service to the New York City Police Department to be cele-
brated at a Retirement Party held in her honor on Friday, May 13, 2016,
at Russo's on the Bay, Howard Beach, New York; and
WHEREAS, A life-long resident of Queens, New York, Nicole Dean earned
her degree from the City University of New York John Jay College of
Criminal Justice; on July 7, 1987, she entered the New York City Police
(NYPD) Academy; and
WHEREAS, In January of 1988, Nicole Dean began her illustrious career
with the NYPD at the Police Service Area (PSA) 9 in Flushing, New York;
she then transferred to the 105th Precinct in Queens Village, New York,
in September of 1989; and
WHEREAS, A proud and dedicated member of the NYPD, Officer Nicole Dean
tirelessly served as one of the first responders at the 9/11 World Trade
Center tragedy; and
WHEREAS, In June of 2006, Officer Nicole Dean was promoted to the
esteemed rank of Sergeant, and was subsequently assigned to the 104th
Precinct in Queens, New York; and
WHEREAS, One year later, Sergeant Nicole Dean was assigned to Patrol
Borough Queens North in Flushing; in January of 2008, she transferred to
the 103rd Precinct in Jamaica, New York; and
WHEREAS, In her role as Sergeant, Nicole Dean served as the NYPD
training liaison to police agencies throughout the country, mentored and
developed numerous NYPD officers along with evaluating their perform-
ances, and worked closely with elected officials and community residents
to improve the effectiveness of communication with the police depart-
ment; and
WHEREAS, In October of 2009, Sergeant Nicole Dean held the position of
Leadership Training Coordinator at the Police Academy; in this capacity,
she taught, developed and scheduled training courses in the areas of
leadership, security, and personal development; and
WHEREAS, On November 30, 2015, this well-respected public servant
officially retired from the NYPD, after 28 years of exceptional service
to the people of New York City; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Sergeant Nicole Dean upon the occasion of her retirement after 28
years of distinguished service to the New York City Police Department on
May 13, 2016; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sergeant Nicole Dean.
