LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick upon the occa-
sion of his designation as recipient of the Distinguished Service Award
by the Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patients Network

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals within the medical field who distinguish
themselves through professional excellence and who have made significant
contributions to the quality of life of citizens in the State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Wayne A. I. Frederick upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Distinguished Service Award by the Sickle Cell Thalassemia
Patients Network, to be celebrated at its 23rd Annual Glamorous Red
Carpet Dinner and Dance Gala on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at the Grand
Prospect Hall, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick has been called upon to contribute
his time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, The Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patients Network is an organiza-
tion which provides education, advocacy, referral services, and support
for individuals and families living with sickle cell disease, thalasse-
mia, and other inherited blood disorders; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the Sickle Cell Thalassemia Patients Network
(SCTPN) honors medical professionals such as Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick
who dedicate their careers caring for people living with sickle cell and
other chronic conditions associated with the disease; and
WHEREAS, As the 17th President of Howard University, Dr. Wayne A. I.
Frederick is dedicated to continuing the University's legacy of being a
world-renowned academic and research institution; and
WHEREAS, Individuals such as Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick, who have given
so selflessly of their skills and dedication, have proven to be a great
asset to the health and welfare of the citizens of the State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick has
displayed throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
commend and recognize those esteemed individuals and institutions within
the medical community for their extraordinary and sustained contrib-
utions to the progress of medicine and the improvement of life; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Distinguished Service Award by the Sickle Cell
Thalassemia Patients Network; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Wayne A. I. Frederick.
