LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Toni and Martin Sosnoff upon the occa-
sion of their designation for special recognition by Hofstra University
on May 5, 2016
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Toni and Martin Sosnoff have given not only of their time and
energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Toni and
Martin Sosnoff upon the occasion of their designation for special recog-
nition by Hofstra University at its 20th Annual Gala on Thursday, May 5,
2016, at the Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex, North Campus, Hemp-
stead, New York; and
WHEREAS, Toni and Martin Sosnoff are receiving this auspicious award
for their devotion to their profession and sincere dedication and
substantial roles as community leaders; they have continuously cast a
positive impact on their community and displayed an unbridled enthusiasm
in all their professional and civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, For decades, Toni and Martin Sosnoff have been actively
engaged in various areas of personal interest, including medicine,
education, animals and, especially, the performing and visual arts,
particularly contemporary art; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Hofstra University class of 1963, Toni
Sosnoff earned her Bachelor's degree in Drama; Martin Sosnoff received
his Bachelor's degree from The City College of New York and his Master's
in Business Administration from New York University; in addition, he is
a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA); and
WHEREAS, For two decades, Martin Sosnoff served as a Trustee of Bard
College, and manages the school's endowment fund; he held the title of
Overseer at the Stern School of Business, New York University and is an
active participant on the American Ballet Theatre Board of Directors and
Chairs its investment committee; and
WHEREAS, For over 50 years, Martin Sosnoff has worked on Wall Street;
currently, he holds the title of CEO and Chief Investment Officer for
Atalanta Sosnoff Capital, LLC; and
WHEREAS, A prolific author, Martin Sosnoff has written three books on
the money management business including SILENT INVESTOR, SILENT LOSER;
HUMBLE ON WALL STREET; and, most recently, MASTER CLASS FOR INVESTORS:
STAND ALONE TO WIN BIG; in addition, he writes weekly for FORBES.COM and
was a columnist for THE NEW YORK POST; and
WHEREAS, Together, Toni and Martin Sosnoff are co-founders of the
Martin and Toni Sosnoff Foundation, which supports medical research and
education, among its charitable efforts; the foundation is currently
involved with Northern Dutchess Hospital's new building program and
Mount Sinai Hospital; and
WHEREAS, Generous benefactors of the Arts, Toni and Martin Sosnoff are
active collectors of contemporary art and support museums and the
performing arts in dance, theater and music; in 2009, they made the
single largest donation from an individual to the American Ballet Thea-
tre; their substantial contribution created the New Works Fund to broad-
en the dance company's repertoire; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Toni and Martin Sosnoff donated major gifts of
art to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum, Art Institute
of Chicago, and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, as well as The Aldrich
Contemporary Art Museum in Connecticut; and
WHEREAS, Their generosity was instrumental in the refurbishment of the
theater in the John Cranford Adams Playhouse at Hofstra University; in
recognition of their charity, the theater was named the Toni and Martin
Sosnoff Theater in their honor; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Toni and Martin Sosnoff are members of the Board of
Governors of The Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at
Bard College, and its main theater was also named in recognition of
their good deeds and philanthropy; and
WHEREAS, Recently, Toni and Martin Sosnoff moved from New York to
Florida, where they live with their beloved five dogs and three horses;
they are beginning outreach to institutions focused on the performing
arts, such as the Palm Beach Opera, Chamber Music Society and the
enchanting zoo; and
WHEREAS, An accomplished equestrian, Martin Sosnoff remains an active
competitor in dressage; a dog lover, Toni Sosnoff's standard poodle,
Ally, was judged reserve Best-in-Show Winner at the February of 2014
Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show; for the last 25 years, Toni has main-
tained an active breeding and exhibition program for both standard and
toy poodles; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Toni and Martin Sosnoff have displayed
throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Toni and Martin Sosnoff upon the occasion of their designation
for special recognition; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Toni and Martin Sosnoff.
