LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Daniel G. Moriarty upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Access to Justice Award by Prison-
ers' Legal Services of New York

WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and the great
State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good works
of those patriotic and civic-minded community members who dedicate their
lives and careers to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Daniel G.
Moriarty upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Access
to Justice Award by Prisoners' Legal Services of New York; this momen-
tous occasion was celebrated at its 40th Anniversary Party on Friday,
October 24, 2014, at Albany Law School, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Daniel G. Moriarty graduated from the Georgetown University
School of Foreign Service in 1964 with a Bachelor's degree in Foreign
Service; he went on to receive his legal training from the Georgetown
University Law Center where he graduated in 1967 with the Juris Doctor
degree; and
WHEREAS, As an Albany Law Professor, Daniel G. Moriarty has taught
mainly in the area of criminal law, teaching the course required for all
first-year students, as well as more advanced courses in White Collar
Crime, Federal Criminal Law, Juvenile Justice, Post-Conviction Remedies,
Sentencing & Corrections, and Comparative Law; during his tenure, he
took on a number of criminal appeals cases as assigned counsel; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining the faculty at Albany Law School in 1971,
Daniel G. Moriarty served as a Law Clerk to the New York State Supreme
Court, Appellate Division, Third Department, where he was assigned to
work on the court's criminal cases; and
WHEREAS, In addition, he was an Assistant District Attorney with the
Albany County District Attorney's office; and
WHEREAS, Daniel G. Moriarty served as the Faculty Director of a Pris-
oners' Legal Services Clinic which was run by the school; the project
served as a pilot for the state-wide program; and
WHEREAS, With an interest in history and philosophy, Daniel G. Moriar-
ty also taught courses in American Legal History, Jurisprudence and
Administrative Law, as well as Judicial Remedies and Business Organiza-
tions; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Daniel G. Moriarty upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the Access to Justice Award by Prisoners' Legal Services of New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Daniel G. Moriarty.
