LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the New York Aquarium Community Access
Program upon the occasion of hosting its Annual Older Americans Month
Celebration
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those
organizations and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the New York Aquarium Community Access Program upon the occasion of
hosting its Annual Older Americans Month Celebration in collaboration
with the New York City Department for the Aging; and
WHEREAS, The New York Aquarium has expanded its efforts to offer
educational programming outside of its Coney Island borders and
increased its efforts to provide opportunities for underserved audiences
to visit the Aquarium through its Community Access Program (CAP); and
WHEREAS, CAP provides access to senior, youth and other community
based organizations which would not usually have the opportunity to
experience the New York Aquarium and its wonderful attractions; and
WHEREAS, One of New York Aquarium's long-standing CAP events is its
Annual Older Americans Month Celebration; this year, the following
centers have been invited to attend this remarkable event: May 17, 2016,
Midwood Senior Center, Dorchester Senior Center, Remsen-Senior Action
Senior Center, Moose Lodge Senior Center, Fort Greene Hazel Brooks
Senior Center and CCNS Glenwood Senior Center; and May 31, 2016, Park
Slope Senior Citizens Center and Prospect Hill Senior Services Center;
and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the New York Aquarium Community Access Program upon the occasion
of hosting its Annual Older Americans Month Celebration; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the New York Aquarium Community Access Program.
