LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim May 1, 2016, as Mother Goose Day in the State of New York
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize official
days that are set aside to commend those enduring authors who are
devoted to the promotion of culture and art for the benefit of all the
citizens of New York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the sense of this Legislative Body to memori-
alize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 1, 2016, as Mother Goose
Day in the State of New York, in conjunction with the observance of
National Mother Goose Day; and
WHEREAS, Each year, May 1st is designated as National Mother Goose Day
to honor Mother Goose, the imaginary author of the beloved collection of
fairy tales and nursery rhymes which are enjoyed by children worldwide;
and
WHEREAS, Illustrated as an elderly country woman in a tall hat and
shawl or depicted as a goose wearing a bonnet, Mother Goose is recog-
nized and warmly embraced by all; and
WHEREAS, Mother Goose Day was founded in 1987 by Gloria T. Delamar in
tandem with the publication of her book, MOTHER GOOSE: FROM NURSERY TO
LITERATURE; and
WHEREAS, Mother Goose Day in the State of New York is dedicated to
improving the arts which are central to human expression and inspire the
imagination; individuals who further such worthy purposes richly merit
the recognition and appreciation of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, The citizens of the State of New York stand firmly committed
to promoting reading as the catalyst for our students' future academic
success, their preparation for America's jobs of the future, and their
ability to compete in a global economy; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim May 1, 2016, as Mother
Goose Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
