LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill
of America, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting Teens Matter: Conversa-
tions and Tools on the Intersectionality of Race and Diversity on May 1,
2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. upon the occasion
of hosting Teens Matter: Conversations and Tools on the Intersectionali-
ty of Race and Diversity to be celebrated on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at
Brooklyn Borough Hall, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is a non-profit organization
comprised of mothers with children ages 2-19 who are dedicated to
nurturing future African-American leaders through offering services
which foster leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic
giving and civic duty; and
WHEREAS, Since 1938, Jack and Jill of America, Inc. has diligently
worked to create a medium of contact for children which will stimulate
growth and development by providing constructive educational, cultural,
civic, health, recreational and social programs; and
WHEREAS, The Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is
committed to guiding its members' children towards a bright future by
helping them realize the power and potential in their work and dreams;
its philanthropic and service commitments to our community can be felt
locally, nationally and internationally; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed organization's Teens Matter: Conversations and
Tools on the Intersectionality of Race and Diversity conference will
provide young people from the ages of 13 to 18, residing primarily in
the Brooklyn area but inclusive of Staten Island, an opportunity to
express themselves in response to negative media coverage regarding
images of race, police interaction, and youth in New York City; and
WHEREAS, The Teens Matter Conference will also allow young men and
women to have access to information, workshops and sources of assistance
which will provide lifelines and support as they navigate through these
challenging years as a teenager in modern day society and New York City;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. upon the
occasion of hosting Teens Matter: Conversations and Tools on the Inter-
sectionality of Race and Diversity on May 1, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Brooklyn Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.
