LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Korean American Parents Associ-
ation of Greater New York upon the occasion of hosting its 25th Annual
Teacher's Day Celebration on May 26, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those organizations which are committed to enhancing the
quality of education in the State of New York, and which enable our
schools to better enrich our children's futures; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Korean American Parents Association of Greater New York upon the
occasion of hosting its 25th Annual Teacher's Day Celebration, to be
held on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Dae Dong Manor in Flushing, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1991, the Korean American Parents Association of
Greater New York (KAPA-GNY) is a non-profit, non-partisan, education and
community advocacy organization which works to provide the best possible
academic environment for Korean American students and their families;
and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to promoting active participation by Korean Ameri-
can parents in the public school system, KAPA-GNY works tirelessly to
build relationships based on mutual respect and understanding among
students, parents, teachers, and public school officials; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed organization also strives to advocate for the
rights of parents and students, which may not as yet be fully realized
due to cultural, linguistic and educational differences between the
United States and Korea; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, KAPA-GNY provides translation services and Parent
Workshops for non-English speaking parents, and works to enhance the
sensitivity of school faculty and staff toward Korean culture and tradi-
tion while celebrating the exceptional cultural diversity of New York
City schools; and
WHEREAS, Korean culture has a long tradition of sincere respect and
admiration for teachers; students are taught to respect their teachers
from the very first time they enter a school; and
WHEREAS, KAPA-GNY continues this tradition by sponsoring its 25th
Annual Teacher's Day Celebration to honor committed educators for all of
their efforts on behalf of Korean American students and their families;
and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to KAPA-GNY for its
profound commitment to bringing students, educators and parents together
as partners; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that when organ-
izations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Korean American Parents Association of Greater New York upon
the occasion of hosting its 25th Annual Teacher's Day Celebration; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Korean American Parents Association of Greater New York.
