LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the members of the Mount Saint Mary
College community upon the occasion of commemorating the 800th Jubilee
of the Dominican Order
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate those
events of historical significance which add strength, vigor and inspira-
tion to the cultural diversity and quality of life in the communities of
the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the members of the Mount Saint Mary College community upon the occasion
of commemorating the 800th Jubilee of the Dominican Order; and
WHEREAS, The members of the Mount Saint Mary College community,
including faculty, staff, students and alumni, recently joined together
to create a quilt to recognize the 800th Jubilee of the Dominican Order;
the project is co-sponsored by the Catholic and Dominican Institute and
the Saint John's Bible Planning Team; and
WHEREAS, Inspired by the art of the Saint John's Bible, the first
handwritten and illuminated Bible produced in more than 500 years, the
Jubilee Quilt celebrates the rich history of the Dominican Order, and
honors the Mount's connection; and
WHEREAS, The Jubilee Quilt is being created under the direction of
Laura Nicholls, Desmond Campus art instructor, certified calligrapher,
and former art teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas College and in the Nanuet
Public Schools; and
WHEREAS, The Mount Saint Mary College kicked off its year-long cele-
bration in June of 2015 with the Saint John's Bible Heritage Edition, a
two-volume, fine-art reproduction of the original Saint John's Bible,
which will remain on view at the campus throughout the academic year;
and
WHEREAS, Upon completion, the Jubilee Quilt will be added to the
college's art collection and permanently displayed; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend the efforts of the members of the Mount Saint Mary College who
organize themselves for the purpose of improving and enhancing the qual-
ity of life in their communities; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the members of the Mount Saint Mary College community upon the
occasion of commemorating the 800th Jubilee of the Dominican Order; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Laura Nicholls, the Catholic and Dominican Institute and the
Saint John's Bible Planning Team.
