LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Edward T. Rogowsky Internship
Program for its continued service and dedication to its students includ-
ing holding the annual Model Senate Session upon the occasion of cele-
brating its 21st Anniversary on March 19, 2016

WHEREAS, A great state is only as great as those programs that provide
exemplary services on behalf of their community, whether through unique
achievements in professional or other endeavors, or simply through a
lifetime of good citizenship; and
WHEREAS, It is a privilege of this Legislative Body to honor the
Edward T. Rogowsky Internship Program for their 21 years of service; and
WHEREAS, Prior to the existence of this program students often learned
about policy and the legislative process solely through academic teach-
ings; and
WHEREAS, The Edward T. Rogowsky Internship Program was established to
expose and enable undergraduate students to actively experience New York
State government and its legislative process; and
WHEREAS, It is through this program that every year approximately 60
CUNY and SUNY students have the opportunity to go through intensive
training seminars and ultimately debate bills on the floor of this very
chamber; and
WHEREAS, A program of this magnitude can only reach this level of
success under the leadership of motivated faculty and staff; and
WHEREAS, Edward T. Rogowsky, whom the program is named after, assumed
the role of director back in 1995 and fostered a sense of duty and civic
action among undergraduate students; and
WHEREAS, This sense of community has continued to grow and strengthen
under the leadership of Dr. Anthony Maniscalco, who in 1997 became the
Project/Training Component Coordinator for the Model New York State
Senate Sessions and, after Dr. Rogowsky's tragic passing in 2001, became
the Director of The Edward T. Rogowsky Internship Program; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the many years of its existence, The Edward T.
Rogowsky Internship Program has successfully coordinated and overseen
numerous Model New York State Senate Sessions; and
WHEREAS, It is indeed rare to find the impressive dedication shown by
individuals like Edward T. Rogowsky and Anthony Maniscalco for the bene-
fit of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when programs
of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our attention,
they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Anthony Maniscalco for continuing the dedicated service of the
Edward T. Rogowsky Internship Program and for celebrating its 21st Anni-
versary by giving another 60 young adults in New York the opportunity to
experience the legislative process of this great state firsthand by
participating in their Annual Model Senate on March 19, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Anthony Maniscalco.
