LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Edwin John Weinmann upon the occa-
sion of celebrating his 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with his zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of his family and friends; this momen-
tous occasion will be celebrated with a 100th Birthday Party in his
honor on Saturday, May 14, 2016, at McPeak's Assisted Living, Patchogue,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York, on May 14, 1916, Edwin John Wein-
mann, the only child of Augusta and Edwin Weinmann, spent most of his
life in Ridgewood, Queens with his wife, Ann and daughter Marilyn; and
WHEREAS, One of the remaining members of the "Greatest Generation,"
Edwin John Weinmann served as a munitions expert in the United States
Army from 1942 to 1945, and received several Medals of Honor for his
bravery during the Second World War; and
WHEREAS, Upon the completion of his military service, Edwin John Wein-
mann went to work for the Oxford Filing Supply Company, an office organ-
ization solutions company, today known as Pendaflex, based in Melville,
New York; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished man has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, In the 1960s, Edwin John Weinmann took a position closer to
home, at Bohack's Supermarket, headquartered in Maspeth, Queens, where
he worked until his retirement, during which time he became a doorman at
an apartment house on 86th Street in Manhattan; and
WHEREAS, Edwin John Weinmann, who shares a birth year with the Profes-
sional Golf Association (PGA), Wrigley Field and the National Park
Service, lives a very happy and healthy life at McPeak's Assisted
Living; he is a lifelong circus enthusiast and has a tremendous
affection for all animals, particularly dogs and horses; and
WHEREAS, This beloved man has enriched the lives of those around him
through his joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Edwin John Weinmann upon the occasion of celebrating his
100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Edwin John Weinmann.
