LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Crawford L. Hinson upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by the New York State Office for
the Aging on May 10, 2016

WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Crawford L.
Hinson upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by
the New York State Office for the Aging at its Annual Senior Citizens
Day Celebration on Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at the Hart Theatre Lounge in
The Egg, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and
WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped build and shape our
Nation to be the greatest in the world; they have defended our freedoms
and values to ensure that those who come after them may have better
lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more visible
and more a part of the lives of all citizens than here in the State of
New York; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed man has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, As Pastor of Friendship Baptist Church of Long Island City,
New York for the past 19 years, Crawford L. Hinson has truly made a
difference by enlightening the diverse communities, building relation-
ships between the church and the secular world; and
WHEREAS, In this capacity, Crawford L. Hinson works closely with the
youth and the elderly, and has joined with four other local churches,
benefitting and enhancing the lives of residents within the community;
and
WHEREAS, A true asset to his community, Crawford L. Hinson serves as
President of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Queens and Vicinity
Inc.; he gives of his time and energies to Rikers Island Prison Outreach
Ministry, as well as voter registration drives, nursing homes and hospi-
tals, and various outreach ministries; and
WHEREAS, Crawford L. Hinson is a member of Urban Upbound, a non-profit
organization working to transform and improve New York City public hous-
ing neighborhoods; he has also been involved in the Black Lives Matter
Peaceful Protests with members of the NAACP and the Queensbridge Housing
Complex; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Crawford L. Hinson also serves as a community
chaplain working with the inner city youth in the borough of Queens; and
WHEREAS, Crawford L. Hinson retired from the New York City Department
of Sanitation after 21 years of distinguished service; he received his
Bachelor's degree of Religious Education in 2009, his Master's degree in
2012, and his Doctorate degree of Divinity in 2014, at The Burroughs
Divinity Bible School of Mount Vernon; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Jamaica, Queens, Crawford L. Hinson, was
married to the love of his life, First Lady Peggy J. Hinson, for 46
years before her passing; he is the proud father of one daughter and an
adopted son (nephew), as well as the doting grandfather to two grand-
children and one great granddaughter; and

WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Crawford L. Hinson has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Crawford L. Hinson has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, Crawford L. Hinson, a very active and industrious man, has
inspired and enriched the lives of those he serves through his volun-
teerism, generously sharing the wisdom gained over years of experiencing
life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Crawford L. Hinson upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by the New York State Office for the Aging on May
10, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Crawford L. Hinson.
