LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Reverend Philip A. Hearn upon the
occasion of celebrating the 50th Anniversary of his Ordination to the
Priesthood of the Diocese of Syracuse, New York, on May 29, 2016

WHEREAS, The character and richness of religious and community life in
this noble Empire State is nourished and fulfilled through the faithful
concern and selfless devotion of those who would commit their energies
and purpose to the ministry of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to bring full
recognition and just tribute to those individuals who distinguish them-
selves and the ministry through their unremitting commitment and preemi-
nence of service; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Reverend Philip A. Hearn upon the occasion of celebrating the Gold-
en Jubilee of his Ordination to the Priesthood of the Diocese of
Syracuse, New York, to be rejoiced at a Mass on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at
Saint Peter's Church, Rome, New York, followed by a Dinner at The Beech-
es Restaurant; and
WHEREAS, A native of Syracuse, New York, Philip A. Hearn graduated
from Saint John the Evangelist High School in Syracuse, and then went on
to study at Saint Jerome's and Christ the King Seminary; he later earned
a master's degree in Religious Education from Fordham University in New
York City; and
WHEREAS, On May 21, 1966, Philip A. Hearn was proudly ordained into
the priesthood of the Diocese of Syracuse, New York; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Reverend Philip A. Hearn was assigned
to serve as assistant pastor at several parishes, including Our Lady of
Lourdes, Syracuse; Saint John the Baptist, Rome; and, Blessed Sacrament,
Syracuse; he later served as pastor of Saint Mary's/Saint Peter's Parish
in Rome, a title he still holds today; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Reverend Philip A. Hearn served as a member of
the faculty of Rome Catholic High School, and as Principal of Bishop
Ludden High School in Syracuse, New York; and
WHEREAS, Reverend Philip A. Hearn is credited for his many years of
devoted service to Rome Memorial Hospital; he also served as co-Director
of Vocations at Aquinas House in Syracuse and as Vicar Forane in the
Eastern Region of the Diocese; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when a person
of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our attention, it
is appropriate to publicly and jubilantly proclaim and commend that
individual for the edification of others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Reverend Philip A. Hearn upon the occasion of celebrating
the 50th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood of the Diocese
of Syracuse, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Reverend Philip A. Hearn.
