LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Miss New York Plus America upon
the occasion of hosting its Pageant on May 22, 2016

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Miss New
York Plus America upon the occasion of hosting its Pageant on Sunday,
May 22, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The Miss Plus America Pageant has been the premier Pageant
system for the Plus Size woman and has been giving them titles and
opportunities for the last 13 years; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous leadership of New York Regional Director,
Emicia Parker, the organization's New York preliminary to select a woman
to represent New York at the Miss Plus America Pageant in Dallas, Texas,
will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at the Banquet Hall at the John
Wesley United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, This year's Reigning Queens have platforms which range from
mental health and suicide awareness and prevention, mentoring, kidney
disease, childhood obesity, mentorship and heart disease, as well as
stroke awareness and prevention; and
WHEREAS, The woman who won last year, Joneisa Smith, went on to the
National Pageant in Atlanta, Georgia, in July of 2015, and beat 64 women
from across the Country to bring the Miss Plus America Elite crown to
New York, which was the first time a New Yorker took home top honors;
and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to recognize and pay tribute to the Miss New York Plus America; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Miss New York Plus America upon the occasion of hosting its
Pageant on May 22, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Emicia Parker, New York Regional Director, Miss New York Plus
America.
