LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Olivia Nicholson upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the Senior Scholar Humanities Award by
the Orange-Ulster BOCES on April 28, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, to honor the achievements of its young
citizens and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and accomplishments
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Olivia Nichol-
son upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Senior
Scholar Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES which was celebrated
at its Third Annual Awards Breakfast, on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at
Kuhl's Highland House, Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award recognizes outstanding high school
students for their accomplishments and/or performances in the arts,
including fine arts, theater, and music; and
WHEREAS, Olivia Nicholson has distinguished herself as a young woman
of superlative ability, talent, and maturity, establishing standards of
excellence and achievement, purposefulness of life, and responsibility
rarely achieved in youthful years; and
WHEREAS, Olivia Nicholson, a Senior at S. S. Seward Institute, Flori-
da, New York, has plans to major in Songwriting at Belmont University,
Nashville, Tennessee, after graduation; and
WHEREAS, An exceptional student, Olivia Nicholson is a member and
Treasurer of the National Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, A multi-talented artist, Olivia Nicholson has been an enthu-
siastic member of her High School Drama Club for four years, holding the
position of President for the last two years; in addition, she has
served as the co-director of her district's middle school drama
productions for the past two years and has held the title of President
of Select Choir for the past three years; and
WHEREAS, When she is not at school, Olivia Nicholson enjoys performing
with community theatre organizations and singing her songs at local
venues; she also is a vital participant of her local Girl Scout troop;
and
WHEREAS, An outstanding role model for her classmates, Olivia Nichol-
son has brought honor to her family, school, and community; and
WHEREAS, Olivia Nicholson may stand with pride in her achievements,
experiencing the satisfaction of her labors and the joy of her accom-
plishments, eager to face the challenge of new experiences as she
continues her education; and
WHEREAS, Olivia Nicholson represents the potential inherent in our
most precious resource, our youth; this Legislative Body is pleased to
honor this young woman, recognizing her achievements and the promise of
her future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Olivia Nicholson upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the Senior Scholar Humanities Award by the Orange-Ulster BOCES, and
to wish her well in her future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Olivia Nicholson.
