LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Lukas Alvira upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2016 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys
& Girls Club of Buffalo

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Lukas Alvira upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2016 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, The Boys & Girls Club's highest honor, the Youth of the Year
Award, recognizes exceptional young men and women for their outstanding
contributions to the community, as well as their perseverance in over-
coming personal challenges and obstacles; these honorees are shining
examples and living proof that great futures start at Boys & Girls
Clubs; and
WHEREAS, For four years, Lukas Alvira has been a member of the Boys &
Girls Club of Buffalo where he serves as a role model to younger
members; elected by his peers as Keystone Club President, he truly
excels as a leader; and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Lukas Alvira, the Keystone Club
has taken on a variety of activities to engage younger members; this
esteemed young man also sets up monthly visits to local nursing homes to
play board games and interact with the residents; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his community,
Lukas Alvira has been instrumental in organizing several neighborhood
clean-up initiatives, and has been an active participant in the organ-
ization's school supply and book bag drive for the past three years; and
WHEREAS, Lukas Alvira has been the recipient of numerous awards and
accolades including the Angelo Del Toro Scholarship, awarded by the
Puerto Rican/Hispanic Youth Leadership Institute of New York State; and
WHEREAS, An outstanding scholar, Lukas Alvira is a senior at Hutch
Tech High School where he maintains a 90 GPA, and is a member of the
Varsity Baseball Team; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, Lukas
Alvira now stands honorably, with just pride in his accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by his teachers, coaches and
loved ones; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor the youth
of today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best
exemplify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and
Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Lukas Alvira upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2016 Youth of the Year Award by the Boys & Girls Club of Buffalo;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lukas Alvira.
