LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Linda M. Riddick upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award by
the Flora E. Kippins Foundation, Inc. on October 22, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals within the medical field who distinguish
themselves through professional excellence and who have made significant
contributions to the quality of life of citizens in the State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr.
Linda M. Riddick upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Excellence in Leadership Award by the Flora E. Kippins Foundation,
Inc. to be celebrated at its Third Annual Gala on Saturday, October 22,
2016, at the Colonie Golf and Country Club, Voorheesville, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Flora E. Kippins Foundation, Inc. strives to provide
resources and services to support and strengthen the development of
children and families on the African continent and globally who are at
risk of the devastating effects of poverty/HIV/AIDS and other opportun-
istic viruses; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 2011, the Flora E. Kippins Foundation,
Inc. has greatly benefitted not only the residents of the Capital
Region of New York, but also those of Guyana, South America and Ghana,
Africa by offering food, gifts, and medical supplies, hosting parties
and holiday events, and providing educational opportunities; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious award will be bestowed upon Dr. Linda M.
Riddick for her exceptional contributions to the field of Juvenile
Diabetes, her continued active presence in her community, and her demon-
strated commitment to advancing education, as well as her outstanding
support of the mission of the Flora E. Kippins Foundation, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, An accomplished academic, Dr. Linda M. Riddick is an Associ-
ate Professor of Pediatrics; throughout her illustrious career, she has
treated and lectured on various subjects relating to Juvenile Diabetes
including Diabetes and Obesity, Vitamin D Deficiency, Management of Type
2 Diabetes in Adolescents, Puberty in Turner Syndrome, and Pediatric
Obesity and Diabetes, as well as Medical Consequences of Pediatric and
Adolescent Obesity and Growth Disorders; and
WHEREAS, A highly regarded pediatrician and renowned expert on Juve-
nile Diabetes, Dr. Linda M. Riddick is both a National Medical
Fellowship/Franklin, McLean & William & Charlotte Cadbury Award nominee
and a Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Inspiration Award
nominee; she was also the recipient of the National Research Service
Award; and
WHEREAS, Devoted to the medical field and her community, Dr. Linda M.
Riddick has collaborated with several organizations targeting elementary
and middle school students to tackle childhood obesity; in addition, she
was part of a program to provide free dental screening, and has helped
build a house with Habitat for Humanity; and
WHEREAS, As a leader in her profession, Dr. Linda M. Riddick has prov-
en herself to be a great asset to medicine and to the health and welfare
of the citizens of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Linda M. Riddick upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Excellence in Leadership Award by the Flora E. Kippins
Foundation, Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Linda M. Riddick.
