LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Richard J. Herrick upon the occasion of
his retirement as President and CEO of New York State Health Facilities
Association, Inc. after 14 years of distinguished service
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Richard J. Herrick upon the occasion of his retirement as President and
CEO of New York State Health Facilities Association, Inc. after 14 years
of distinguished service; and
WHEREAS, Richard Herrick is the President and CEO of the New York
State Health Facilities Association, Inc. (NYSHFA) and the New York
State Center for Assisted Living (NYSCAL) statewide, health care member-
ship organizations representing over 350 skilled nursing and assisted
living facilities; he will retire from this esteemed position in 2016;
and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Richard J. Herrick was governed by a
keen sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems;
and
WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Richard J. Herrick, the organ-
ization's membership is diversified and represents individual and
multi-facility operations of proprietary, voluntary and government spon-
sorship; members care for approximately 70,000 New Yorkers; and
WHEREAS, Since joining NYSHFA in April of 2002, Richard J. Herrick has
served on several State advisory groups including being invited to
participate on the New York State's Department of Health's Long Term
Care Restructuring Initiative Advisory Council; and
WHEREAS, At the national level, Richard J. Herrick serves on the Board
of Governors of the American Health Care Association and on their Busi-
ness Management Committee; he also serves as President of the American
Society of Health Care Association Executives and on the National Center
for Assisted Living's Senior Living Executive Council; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Richard J. Herrick is a past member of AHCA's
Council of States and Board of Directors of the National Center for
Assisted Living; and
WHEREAS, A frequently requested speaker on long term care issues at
the state and national level, Richard J. Herrick has spoken at the
request of the New York State Commissioner of Health as part of a panel
discussion on "Capital Formation for Health Care of the Future"; has
been a panelist for a Post-Acute Care Roundtable; and is a frequent
featured speaker at the National Investment Center for the Seniors Hous-
ing and Care Industry Conferences; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Richard J. Herrick has spoken for the New York
State Bar Association, the Berger Commission and at the National Medi-
caid and Medicare Leadership Conference as well as countless other long
term care panel discussions; and
WHEREAS, Prior to joining New York State Health Facilities Associ-
ation, Inc., Richard J. Herrick spent seven years as the President and
COO of Wingate Health Care, Inc., which operates seven nursing facili-
ties in Massachusetts and three in New York State; and
WHEREAS, Richard J. Herrick has also served as Executive Vice Presi-
dent of the Ivey Companies, which operate three nursing facilities and a
pharmacy in Massachusetts; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as President and CEO of New York State Health
Facilities Association, Inc., Richard J. Herrick served with loyalty,
honor and distinction, earning him the admiration, esteem and affection
of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that demon-
strated by Richard J. Herrick over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedi-
cation to others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Richard J. Herrick upon the occasion of his retirement as Presi-
dent and CEO of New York State Health Facilities Association, Inc. after
14 years of distinguished service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard J. Herrick.
