LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Sacred
Hearts & St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, in Brooklyn

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those organizations that substantially contribute to the
vitality and well-being of their communities and the entire Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 150th Anniversary of Sacred Hearts & St. Stephen Roman Cathol-
ic Church in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn; and
WHEREAS, Sacred Hearts & St. Stephen was founded in 1866 as St.
Stephen's Parish and has proudly served the Brooklyn community since;
and
WHEREAS, In its 150 years, Sacred Hearts & St. Stephen has established
many schools to serve the community and continued to support spiritual,
educational and outreach programs to this day; and
WHEREAS, Led by Monsignor Guy A. Massie, the Church has seen large
participation and has organized flourishing community activities includ-
ing an annual Good Friday procession; and
WHEREAS, Sacred Hearts & St. Stephen has become a vital part of
Carroll Gardens, serving a community which has seen many changes over
time; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Sacred Hearts &
St. Stephen; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges this exceptional organization and its valuable contributions to
the community, fully confident that it will continue to enjoy the
successes it has experienced thus far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 150th Anniversary of Sacred Hearts & St. Stephen Roman
Catholic Church in Brooklyn; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sacred Hearts & St. Stephen Church.
