LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Le Roy Junior-Senior High School upon
the occasion of its designation as Silver Medal Award Winning School
according to the 2016 U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT High School rankings

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose
exemplary programs and accomplishment clearly demonstrate an enduring
pursuit of excellence in the education of the youth of the Empire State;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Le
Roy Junior-Senior High School in Le Roy, New York, upon the occasion of
its designation as Silver Medal Award Winning School according to the
2016 U.S. NEWS & WORLD REPORT High School rankings; and
WHEREAS, This honor is achieved by reviewing all of the public high
schools in the Nation using four criteria; the first step is to sort out
those schools that have performed better statistically in the state than
average for the students in that state, the second step is to evaluate
if the disadvantaged students in the district are performing better than
average for similar students in the state, the third component, newly
introduced this year, is how schools meet or surpass a basic benchmark
for their graduation rate, and the fourth step is college-readiness
performance; and
WHEREAS, The national data compiled evaluated 19,908 public high
schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia; Le Roy Junior-
Senior High School's ranking was in the top 10.9 percent of all high
schools in the United States; and
WHEREAS, In New York state, the Oatkan Knights ranked 180 out of 1,271
high schools and are among 225 schools which were awarded either gold or
silver status; it is the first time since the rankings came out in 2007,
that Le Roy Junior-Senior High School has been awarded a medal; and
WHEREAS, Le Roy Junior-Senior High School has diligently worked to
improve its graduation rate, which now hovers around 90 percent, and
offers eight Advanced Placement courses and 22 college-level courses to
its students; and
WHEREAS, The School has also strived to ensure its students believe in
themselves by challenging them to be successful; and
WHEREAS, This prestigious award is an honor for the students, faculty,
staff, administrators, and Board of Education of the Le Roy Central
School District; it is a reflection of the tremendous support the commu-
nity provides for excellence in education; and
WHEREAS, Within the 21st Century, the Le Roy Junior-Senior High School
stands prepared to reach out, in earnest and enthusiastic quest of its
mission, to promote the maximum growth of every student, establishing
standards and building skills which will carry its students and the
citizens of its community into the future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Le Roy Junior-Senior High School upon the occasion of its desig-
nation as Silver Medal Award Winning School according to the 2016 U.S.
NEWS & WORLD REPORT High School rankings, noting the significance of its
accomplishment and recognizing the role such effective schools play in
shaping the quality of life in their community, State and Nation; and be
it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Le Roy Junior-Senior High School.
