LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Gordon J. Silsby upon the occasion of
his selection as Grand Marshal of the City of Sherrill 2016 Centennial
Parade on July 30, 2016

WHEREAS, Each and every city, town, village and hamlet within its
borders proudly resonates with the rich and noble history of New York
State and this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend individuals and events which symbolize the historical, social
and cultural development of this great State and embody the spirit of
the principles upon which this Nation was founded; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Gordon J.
Silsby upon the occasion of his selection as Grand Marshal of the City
of Sherrill 2016 Centennial Parade on July 30, 2016; and
WHEREAS, In 1916, the City of Sherrill was granted a charter and
incorporated as a city with a City Manager form of government; the
current City Commission held its April meeting on Thursday, April 7,
2016, to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the date the Sherrill
charter was signed; and
WHEREAS, The 2016 Centennial Parade is part of a big weekend of Anni-
versary events, activities and celebrations to be held from July 29-30,
2016, in Sherrill, New York; the parade will feature Grand Marshal
Gordon "Gordie" J. Silsby, bands, performers, dignitaries, organizations
and local residents; and
WHEREAS, Gordon J. Silsby was chosen for this most auspicious honor in
recognition of his many years of ceaseless dedicated service to the City
of Sherrill, New York; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, Gordon J. Silsby
and his wife, Beverly, moved to the city of Sherrill in 1953; and
WHEREAS, Shortly after moving, Gordon J. Silsby started working for
Oneida Limited; in 1960, he took a job with the Sherrill Post Office and
remained there until his retirement in 1989; and
WHEREAS, Gordon J. Silsby has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Giving back to the city that welcomed him, Gordon J. Silsby
served on the Sherrill City Commission for 16 years, including 10 years
as Mayor and four years as City Manager; he also held the positions of
Commander of the Sherrill American Legion, and President of the Oneida
Lions Club; in addition, he coached Sherrill's Little League and Pop
Warner Football teams; and
WHEREAS, Over the past 34 years, Gordon J. Silsby has served as Chair-
person of the Sherrill Electric Board, and is a member of the Board for
both the Sherrill-Kenwood Water Board and Valley View Cemetery Board; he
is also a founding member of the Noyes Manor Board of Directors and is
Director Emeritus of Noyes Manor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Beverly, and his
daughter Deb, all of whom feel privileged to be part of his life and
rejoice in this honor; and
WHEREAS, The treasured values of families united and wholesome enter-
tainment for all ages reflected in this event help to foster community
spirit and cooperation, as well as preserve the beliefs, ideals and
values for which our forefathers declared the independence of these
United States; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Gordon J. Silsby upon the occasion of his selection as Grand

Marshal of the City of Sherrill 2016 Centennial Parade on July 30, 2016;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Grand Marshal Gordon J. Silsby.
