LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Goshen Chamber of Commerce upon
the occasion of hosting its 35th Annual Great America Weekend from July
2-3, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
organizations and events which substantially contribute to the economic
vitality of their communities and the entire Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Goshen Chamber of Commerce upon the occasion of hosting its 35th
Annual Great America Weekend from July 2-3, 2016, at the First Presbyte-
rian Church, Goshen, New York; and
WHEREAS, For numerous years, the Goshen Chamber of Commerce has
strived to serve as a voice of the business community, by providing
economic and network development, as well as educational and marketing
resources to local businesses; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1982, the Great American Weekend
continues to be more than just an event, it is a tradition which defines
Goshen as a Great American Community; and
WHEREAS, Originally begun to bolster attendance at the Historic Track
after betting was eliminated, the Great American Weekend offers activ-
ities for every member of the family and has grown into one of the Coun-
ty's most prestigious events; and
WHEREAS, Recognized as the Hudson Valley's liveliest Fourth of July
celebration, 20,000 people a day will stroll through the nine-acre
village which surrounds the First Presbyterian Church, inspecting the
offerings at 150 craft booths, grazing their way through a culinary
snackopedia, and clapping approval for local entertainers; and
WHEREAS, The Great American Weekend has become a focal point of the
Summer Season in Goshen, and has drawn crowds from near and far; in
addition to being a weekend filled with fun for all ages, this community
event has sponsored many amazing programs which benefit the entire
community in many ways; revenues generated by vendors have culminated in
scholarships, grants and programs which serve the Greater Goshen area;
and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges this exceptional organization and event, as well as its contrib-
utions to the local and State economies, fully confident it will contin-
ue to enjoy the sparkling success it has experienced thus far; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Goshen Chamber of Commerce upon the occasion of hosting its
35th Annual Great America Weekend from July 2-3, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Goshen Chamber of Commerce.
