LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Kiara Romotzki upon the occasion of her
designation as recipient of the 2014 Dr. Shine Award by the Manhasset
Board of Education

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Kiara Romotzki
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the 2014 Dr. Shine
Award by the Manhasset Board of Education; and
WHEREAS, The coveted Dr. Shine Award memorializes the legacy of Dr.
Shine, whose progressive leadership embraces a commitment to providing
the best educational opportunity for each and every student; the award
recognizes young people who have the courage to work towards the
fulfillment of a vision for themselves through a strong humanitarian
commitment to others; and
WHEREAS, A young woman of purpose, Kiara Romotzki is passionate about
many things, from figure skating and travel, to philanthropy and her
education; she sets the bar high for herself and focuses her energy on
achieving her goals and doing whatever she can for the betterment of the
Manhasset community; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Manhasset Central School, Kiara Romotzki is the
co-Founder of Lov3arth, a nonprofit organization that promotes awareness
of reflective roofs, which are flat roofs that are covered with reflec-
tive material, or simply white paint, to cool buildings and conserve
energy; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Kiara Romotzki created and executed an initi-
ative for the Generic Xchange Petition designed to enforce stricter
regulations of the size, shape, and color of generic medications to
reduce potential confusion; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Kiara Romotzki founded Relief Aid and Relief
Efforts (R.A.R.E.), a charity that awards local scholarships to Manhas-
set students; and
WHEREAS, Kiara Romotzki is also the recipient of the prestigious Pres-
idential Volunteer Service Gold Award; and
WHEREAS, Since it is the attitude of our children that will most
influence our future course of government, the future of our society is
dependent upon our instilling within our children the concepts of indi-
vidual responsibility and good citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Throughout New York State, our young people are lovingly and
thoughtfully demonstrating a sense of civic and community responsibility
in a variety of socially oriented projects for the betterment of their
neighbors and neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Kiara Romotzki now stands with just pride in assessing her
achievements; recognizing the value of her experience, the satisfaction
of her labors and the joy of her accomplishments, appreciative of the
support of her family and teachers, and eager to face the challenge of
new experiences; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Kiara Romotzki upon the occasion of her designation as recipient
of the 2014 Dr. Shine Award by the Manhasset Board of Education; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kiara Romotzki.
