LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Whittaker
Farms LLC in Whitney Point, New York

WHEREAS, The agricultural industry is part of the foundation upon which
our distinct American heritage is built; New York State and the entire
United States are dependent on our agricultural industry for a variety
of food products; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
milestones of those families which substantially contribute to the
economic vitality of their communities and the entire Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of Whittaker Farms LLC in Whitney Point, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Lewis Whittaker purchased the farm, which consisted of 158
acres, in March of 1915; previously, he was the owner of the creamery
just down the road which sold butter in Binghamton, New York; and
WHEREAS, Every day, Lewis Whittaker, along with his wife, Susie, and
their six children milked 20 dairy cows; during the depression they also
sold eggs to the Binghamton community; and
WHEREAS, Several generations of cousins spent many summers on the farm
helping put in hay and handle the eggs; and
WHEREAS, In the 1940s, Lewis Whittaker sold the farm to his son,
Roscoe, who ran the farm until 1981 and then sold it to his son and
nephew; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Roscoe's son left and sold the farm which, at the
time, had grown to 500 acres; today, Whittaker Farms, now made up of
over 800 acres and consisting of 550 cows, is owned by Scott, Judi and
Brock Whittaker; Brock and his wife, Ashley, and their sons are the next
generation; and
WHEREAS, Whittaker Farms, now named Whittaker Farms LLC, has a staff
of eight, not including family, and currently ships its milk to Dairy
Farmers of America with most of it going to Chobani Yogurt; and
WHEREAS, Whittaker Farms LLC continues to change and expand with the
times, and is poised for success for many years to come; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the success of this exceptional family and its contributions to
the local and State economies, fully confident that it will continue to
enjoy the sparkling successes it has experienced thus far; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Whittaker Farms LLC in Whitney
Point, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Scott, Judi and Brock Whittaker.
