LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Geraldine Keegan upon the occasion of
being named Emerald of the Year by the Emerald Association of Putnam
County
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who foster a
spirit of community and service and work diligently to preserve their
rich cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Geraldine Keegan upon the occasion of being named Emerald of the Year by
the Emerald Association of Putnam County; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Patrick and Florence Sheerin, Geraldine
Keegan was born in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim, Ireland, and is the
youngest of five children; three of her siblings, Sean, Kathleen and
Tommy reside in County Leitrim, Ireland, and Raymond lives in Queens,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Geraldine Keegan met her future husband, Michael, while
living in Ireland; in 1988, she immigrated to the United States, and
then returned to Ireland to get married on August 7, 1989, at Saint
Patrick's Church in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim, Ireland; and
WHEREAS, Michael and Geraldine Keegan returned to the United States
and lived in Bronx, New York, for several years; in 1993, the couple
moved to Brewster, New York, where they settled and raised their family;
and
WHEREAS, For the past 10 years, Geraldine Keegan has been a member of
the Emerald Association of Putnam County, and has been an active volun-
teer and participant at both the annual Feis and the Saint Patrick's Day
Parade; and
WHEREAS, Along with her husband, with her throughout have been her
three daughters, Tara, Michelle and Jaclyn, all of whom feel privileged
to be a part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Geraldine Keegan upon the occasion of being named Emerald of the
Year by the Emerald Association of Putnam County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Geraldine Keegan.
