LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Sandi Quonce upon the occasion of
her designation as recipient of the New York Association for
Continuing/Community Education Outstanding Student of the Year Award
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of those
individuals who have distinguished themselves through their exemplary
pursuit of education as adults; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Sandi Quonce upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the New York Association for Continuing/Community Education Outstanding
Student of the Year Award at its 32nd Annual Student Awards and Legisla-
tive Event on March 10-11, 2015, in Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, The New York Association for Continuing/Community Education
(NYACCE) represents adult education professionals with its primary
missions of maintaining and expanding education and training opportu-
nities for undereducated adults throughout New York State; and
WHEREAS, NYACCE strives to ensure that the opportunities afforded to
these students continue to be available, and that additional adults in
need of these services continue to be served without barriers; it is
well understood that individuals who continue their education have a
greater chance of improving their employment and quality of life; and
WHEREAS, Sandi Quonce understands the value of education and the chal-
lenges and hardships that are sometimes faced when trying to obtain that
education; after a troubled upbringing, she dropped out of high school
in ninth grade, due to a combination of home, behavioral and health
related issues; and
WHEREAS, In 2003, Sandi Quonce trained as a Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)
in the BOCES Consortium of Continuing Education's (BCCE) training
program, during which time she worked as a CNA until 2008; and
WHEREAS, After turmoil in her home life caused her to stray from her
goals, Sandi Quonce found her way back into the educational system at
the age of 42, when she returned to BOCES and enrolled in literacy
classes at the Oneida ACCESS Site; and
WHEREAS, While preparing to take the GED exam, Sandi Quonce also
enrolled in the BOCES Phlebotomy Training Program, a 200-hour course
which prepared her to become a certified Phlebotomist; she successfully
completed the Phlebotomy training in March of 2013, and the following
month she passed the National Phlebotomy Association Certification Exam;
and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, shortly thereafter, in July of 2013, she passed
the GED examination and earned her high school equivalency diploma; and
WHEREAS, Sandi Quonce passed the entrance exam for the BOCES Practical
Nursing Program in September of 2014; she met each challenge of the
rigorous five-step admission process with energy and determination; and
WHEREAS, Currently dividing her time between her commitment to the
BCCE LPN training program's intense 1260 hour course and her work as a
Home Health Aide, Sandi Quonce also gives of her time and energy to the
volunteer group, Seniors Helping Seniors, in Madison County; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body to commend indi-
viduals of outstanding character, who have shown initiative and commit-
ment toward constantly pursuing higher goals for themselves, and acting
as role models of leadership to be emulated by their peers; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Sandi Quonce upon her designation as recipient of the New
York Association for Continuing/Community Education Outstanding Student
of the Year Award, and to wish to her continued success in all of her
future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sandi Quonce.
