LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the Girl Scouts of America Gold
Award Centennial on June 8, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the Girl Scouts of America Gold Award Centennial on June 8, 2016;
and
WHEREAS, The Girl Scouts of America began more than 100 years ago with
one woman, founder Juliette Gordon "Daisy" Low, who believed in the
power of every girl; she organized the first Girl Scout troop on March
12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia, and every year since, this vital organ-
ization has made her vision a reality, helping girls discover their
strengths, passions, and talents; and
WHEREAS, The preeminent leadership development organization for girls,
the Girl Scouts of America offers programs for girls from coast to coast
and across the globe, offering every girl a chance to do something amaz-
ing; and
WHEREAS, Today, remaining true to its mission, the Girl Scouts of
America continues to build girls of courage, confidence, and character
who make the world a better place; and
WHEREAS, Open to young women in high school, the prestigious Girl
Scout Gold Award challenges individuals to change their respective
corners of the world; with a seven step project, the qualifying young
ladies tackle community issues, laying a foundation for further communi-
ty progression for years to come; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, winners of this auspicious award are eligible
for college scholarships and recognition from the Girl Scouts of America
organization; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the Girl Scouts of America Gold Award Centennial on June 8,
2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Girl Scouts of America.
