LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Captain Peter Pagano upon the occasion
of his valiant service as a distinguished member of the Armed Forces,
and celebrating his career and success in serving as a commissioned
officer in the United States Navy

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize members
of the Armed Services who set an extraordinary example for our country
and affect the lives of citizens in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The United States Navy has been in existence for 240 years,
with many of the Navy's fleets having been built in New York State; we
recognize the men and women who have served in times of war and have
given the ultimate sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, Captain Peter Pagano, a native son of Glendale, Queens, New
York, is a fine example of the officers who serve the United States
Navy; and
WHEREAS, Since his admittance to officer candidate school, Captain
Peter Pagano has had the distinction of being a leader; from his first
command of the USS UNDERWOOD to his final command as Executive Officer
of Tactical Training Group Atlantic, he has served his country with
honor; and
WHEREAS, Before acceptance to officer candidate school, Captain Peter
Pagano received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Politics
from St. John's University; he then received his master's degree in
Foreign Affairs from Salve Regina University while on active duty; and
WHEREAS, It is within a career of a military officer, to have served
in multiple capacities; Captain Peter Pagano's first assignment was
Combat Systems Officer for the USS UNDERWOOD in which he successfully
completed southern watch deployment; he was then assigned to the USS
AMERICA and took part in Operations Restore Democracy and Deliberate
Force; and
WHEREAS, After completing both assignments and successful missions,
Captain Peter Pagano became Executive Officer of the USS ROBERT G.
BRADLEY where he completed Standing Naval Forces Atlantic Deployment,
and was then assigned to the Joint Warfighting Center where he was a
Deployable Training Team Observer/Trainer; and
WHEREAS, Captain Peter Pagano's leadership qualities demonstrated he
was an able leader and subsequently, he was given command of the USS
CARR; as Commanding Officer of the USS CARR, he pioneered deployment to
the Gulf of Guinea and western Africa in support of EUCOM theater secu-
rity objectives; and
WHEREAS, In July of 2006, Captain Peter Pagano received the command of
the USS KEARSARGE where his ship took part in Operation Sea Angel II,
providing humanitarian relief to Bangladesh in response to a tropical
cyclone that struck the country; and
WHEREAS, The 29 year career of such an officer should recognize
certain commands that merit acknowledgement such as serving as Fleet
Operations Officer for the United States Navy's Second Fleet, Deputy
Commander of COMPHIBRON Four, Commodore of COMPHIBRON Four and Kearsarge
amphibious ready group; and
WHEREAS, As Commodore, Captain Peter Pagano led this task force during
Operation Odyssey Dawn in 2010 against Libya; his last two assignments
before retiring were Chief of Staff of Navy Warfare Development Command
and Executive Officer of Tactical Training Group Atlantic; and
WHEREAS, Acknowledging one's career in the Armed Services, one should
notate their awarded medals; for his services, Captain Peter Pagano
received the Legion of Merit Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal,

the Navy Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal among other
service medals and unit awards; and
WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at home and abroad,
Captain Peter Pagano demonstrated his love for his country and merits
forevermore, the highest respect of his State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be recognized, commended and
thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and for
their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Captain Peter Pagano upon the occasion of his valiant service as a
distinguished member of the Armed Forces, and to celebrate his career
and success in serving as a commissioned officer in the United States
Navy; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Captain Peter Pagano.
