LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Sche-
nectady County Retired Teachers Association, Inc. to be celebrated on
April 15, 2015

WHEREAS, New York State's commitment to education is unparalleled; its
history and stature are secured by the superlative caliber of its educa-
tional professionals and the students they inspire; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay recognition
to those organizations of commitment and high achievement whose purpose
and endeavors prove a dedication to the pursuit of excellence in the
education of the youth of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of the Schenectady County Retired Teachers
Association, Inc. (SCRTA) to be celebrated at a luncheon on Wednesday,
April 15, 2015, at the Casola Dining Room at Schenectady County Communi-
ty College, Schenectady, New York; and
WHEREAS, During the party, SCRTA will recognize the oldest teachers
from the six school districts in Schenectady County, some of whom are
98-105 years old; and
WHEREAS, On May 10, 1965, SCRTA was founded to provide fellowship and
monetary assistance for retired teachers/educators who live or taught in
Schenectady County; both The Bessie Gray and The Mary J. Hyson Memorial
Funds provide monies to retirees in need of financial aid; and
WHEREAS, The Bessie Gray Memorial Fund was established in the will of
Bessie Gray in 1984; she was a teacher and administrator in the Scotia-
Glenville School District who designated that her gift be determined by
SCRTA for the purpose of helping retired public and private
school/college educators who taught in Schenectady County; and
WHEREAS, The Mary J. Hyson Memorial Fund was established in the will
of Mary J. Hyson in 2003; she was a teacher at Shenendehowa Central
School who bequeathed money to SCRTA to be used only for the welfare and
benefit of Schenectady County retired educators; and
WHEREAS, The SCRTA also grants an annual Aspiring Teacher Award to a
Schenectady County high school senior; and
WHEREAS, Teachers provide a tremendous service to the future of our
State and Nation, inspiring generations of young people in their educa-
tional journeys and ensuring their success in their future years; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when associ-
ations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Schenectady County Retired
Teachers Association, Inc. to be celebrated on April 15, 2015; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Schenectady County Retired Teachers Association, Inc.
