LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 120th Anniversary of the Ossin-
ing Children's Center on April 26, 2015

WHEREAS, Organizations which seek to enhance the education of our young-
est students help to provide children a solid knowledge base upon which
to build their future studies; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and
honor those organizations of commitment and high achievement whose
purpose and endeavors have been dedicated to the pursuit of excellence
in the education of the youth of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 120th Anniversary of the Ossining Children's Center, to be
celebrated with a Gala on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Abigail Kirsch's
Tappan Hill, Tarrytown, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Ossining Children's Center, a nonprofit child care
center, was founded in 1895 to provide educational and enriching care to
the children of immigrant women whose husbands were killed or disabled
while working on the railroad or the Croton Aqueduct; and
WHEREAS, Today, this vital organization cares for more than 160 chil-
dren, ages eight weeks through grade five, and offers a variety of early
childhood and school age programs; the center also provides a full-day
camp for preschoolers and school-age youngsters in the summer, as well
as a variety of enrichment programs including a summer film animation
workshop, gardening program, gymnastics and music; and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission, the Ossining Children's Center
provides care for children in a safe, nurturing, and enriching environ-
ment, creating a foundation for life-long intellectual, social,
emotional and physical growth, and serving as a community resource and
advocate for families; and
WHEREAS, The success of the Ossining Children's Center is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its staff, whose involvement is, and
always has been, characterized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled
enthusiasm, and an uncompromising standard of excellence in all endeav-
ors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, It is only fitting that this Legislative Body extend its
highest commendation to the administration, teachers, staff and parents,
both past and present, of the Ossining Children's Center for their dedi-
cation and commitment to the children, school and community in the
creation of a better world for the children of tomorrow; and
WHEREAS, The Ossining Children's Center has been an integral part of
the history of its community, representing a dynamic, responsive and
positive force within the educational system of New York State; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 120th Anniversary of the Ossining Children's Center on
April 26, 2015; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Ossining Children's Center, Ossining, New York.
