LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Green's Long River Inn & Liquor Store
upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the 2015 Business
of the Year Award by the Unadilla Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly recognize those businesses within the State of New York which
have positively influenced their communities; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Green's Long River Inn & Liquor Store upon the occasion of its desig-
nation as recipient of the 2015 Business of the Year Award by the
Unadilla Chamber of Commerce, to be celebrated at its Annual Dinner on
Sunday, April 26, 2015, at the Unadilla First United Methodist Church,
Unadilla, New York; and
WHEREAS, Lois Green and her late husband, Gerald Green, purchased the
Long River Inn & Liquor Store in 1985; today, their daughter, Kate
Andrews is managing the 80 year-old business; and
WHEREAS, In the 1800s, the original farmhouse was used as a stage
coach stop for the Catskill Turnpike, which was 94 miles long beginning
in Catskill, traversing almost due west to the Susquehanna River at
Wattles Ferry, today known as Unadilla; and
WHEREAS, Former owner, Robert Long turned the building into a tavern
named Long River Inn; Anne Kusko Burns then owned the establishment for
approximately 20 years; and
WHEREAS, During the building of Interstate 88, construction workers
rented the eight upstairs rooms; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Green's Long River Inn & Liquor Store
has donated to many community fundraisers, and have been the proud spon-
sor of both Little League and adult sports teams, as well as the RDC
Field; and
WHEREAS, In November of 2013, contractors began to restore the histor-
ic inn to its original grandeur; today, the dining room has been
completely refurbished with new windows, doors, and walls; the original
hardwood floors were refinished and new unisex restrooms, with unique
fixtures have been installed; and
WHEREAS, After their remodeling efforts, Green's Long River Inn &
Liquor Store now provides an exciting venue space for birthday and
office parties, as well as wedding receptions; and
WHEREAS, Recently, Manager Kate Andrews revamped the menu to include
popular salads and flatbreads; in addition, the inventory at the
attached liquor store has been expanded; and
WHEREAS, Green's Long River Inn & Liquor Store also hosts tavern pool
and pitch leagues, and is a favorite for many poker runs; and
WHEREAS, Along with Kate Andrews and Lois Green, Green's Long River
Inn & Liquor Store is well-managed by several employees, as well as
family members, including Doug Wells, Jackie, Bill and Max Carey; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges Green's Long River Inn & Liquor Store's success, recognizes its
contributions to the local and State economies, and extends its highest
commendation to the business and its employees, fully confident that, in
its future, it will enjoy the same sparkling success which has so char-
acterized its past; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Green's Long River Inn & Liquor Store upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the 2015 Business of the Year Award from the
Unadilla Chamber of Commerce; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lois Green and Kate Andrews, Co-owners, Green's Long River
Inn & Liquor Store.
