LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the Chinese-American Planning Council
upon the occasion of celebrating the Lunar New Year, 4713, the Year of
the Ram

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor, with pleas-
ure and great pride, the Asian-American community of the State of New
York upon the occasion of the celebration of the Lunar New Year; and
WHEREAS, The Lunar New Year is the most important and most popular of
festivals observed by Asian Americans; it is always greeted with much
preparation and much celebration; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the Chinese-
American Planning Council upon the occasion of celebrating the Lunar New
Year, 4713, the Year of the Ram; and
WHEREAS, The Year of the Ram is symbolized by gentleness, calm, and
sensitivity; sheep provide white soft fleece and people born under this
sign are kindhearted, and appreciate art and beauty; and
WHEREAS, In addition to celebrating the Lunar New Year, the Chinese-
American Planning Council (CPC) will also observe its Golden Anniversary
in 2015; and
WHEREAS, At its gala event, CPC will honor seven outstanding individ-
uals for their extraordinary contributions and dedication to the commu-
nity; and
WHEREAS, The 2015 honorees who reflect great credit upon the community
through their commitment to service include: Joyce Chang, named Honoree
of the Year; Gordon Lau and Michael E. Lee, both receiving the Leader-
ship Award; and Yume Kitasel, recipient of the Civic Leadership Award;
and
WHEREAS, The 2015 honorees who have worked for American social service
agencies in the Tri-State area include: Allen B. Cohen, Karen Liu, and
Po-Ling Ng, recipients of the Pioneer Award; and
WHEREAS, CPC's mission is to improve the quality of life of the Asian
community in New York City through access to services, skills training
and resources to encourage economic self-sufficiency and inclusion into
life in New York; and
WHEREAS, As one of the largest providers of educational, social, and
community services to Asian Americans in the United States, it continues
its 50 year history of excellence; and
WHEREAS, CPC offers community services for children, youth and
seniors; workforce development; home attendant services; and housing and
cultural services; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Chief Executive Officer of
the Chinese-American Planning Council, David S. Chen, CPC now serves
over 8,000 people daily through more than 50 programs in 25 locations
throughout the Greater New York area; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the Chinese-American Planning Council upon the occasion of cele-
brating the Lunar New Year, 4713, the Year of the Ram; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to David S. Chen, Chief Executive Officer, Chinese-American
Planning Council.
