LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 42nd Anniversary of the New
York State Tug Hill Commission to be celebrated May 28, 2015, and honor-
ing the 2015 Tug Hill Sages
WHEREAS, Organizations and individuals which serve the interest of the
people of this Empire State merit the commendation of this Legislative
Body; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commemorate the 42nd
Anniversary of the New York State Tug Hill Commission, to be celebrated
at the Adams County Club, in Adams, New York, on Thursday, May 28, 2015;
and
WHEREAS, The need for the New York State Tug Hill Commission arose
from local concerns that development of the region's remote, core forest
would damage the region's environment, economy, and its way of life; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Tug Hill Commission first met in 1973, and
has worked with the 62 towns and villages of the Tug Hill region in
natural resource protection, land use planning, economic development,
downtown revitalization and related fields; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Tug Hill Commission has served the inter-
ests of the people of the Empire State for 40 years in effectively
carrying out its mission and demonstrating the value of its services;
and
WHEREAS, Since 1983, the Tug Hill Commission has honored those indi-
viduals who have a vast knowledge of the Tug Hill's heritage and its
environment, and who have shown a lifelong involvement in the region;
and
WHEREAS, In 2015, the Commission honors as Tug Hill Sages, George
Capron, George Getman and Robert McNamara; and
WHEREAS, George Capron, a resident of Boonville, has been the voice of
the Black River for over 50 years, with his daily radio program on WBRV,
and his easy going manner and calmness in covering local stories and the
ever changing weather in the area; and
WHEREAS , George Getman, a resident of Turin, New York, is a lifelong
logger in the Tug Hill, who also worked on the old Glenfield-Western
Railroad for many years, maintaining it as a means to remove wood
products to local mills; and
WHEREAS, Robert McNamara, a resident from Cleveland, New York, is an
artist, illustrator and naturalist, who expressed his love for the Tug
Hill region through his work with the TH Tomorrow Land Trust and his
Illustrated Book,"TH - A Four Seasons Guide to the Nature Side"; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when commis-
sions and individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought
to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the
citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 42nd Anniversary of the New York State Tug Hill Commis-
sion, and to honor George Capron, George Getman and Robert McNamara, as
the 2015 Tug Hill Sages; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the New York State Tug Hill Commission, George Capron, George
Getman and Robert McNamara.
